PLEASE NOTE:
Please note that upon entering Germany, there are going to be a number of expenses that you must pay for. You should have at least EUROS 500 available on hand (EUROS 1000 being better), outside of the funds in your bank balance or from a scholarship. Cashing a check can take 10 to 30 days and the process of setting up an account can take from 2 to 7 days.
In order to plan your stay here, please calculate EUROS 600 - EUROS 700 per month to cover your living expenses.
Private students upon applying for a visa, are asked for proof of a German bank account that has a balance that would cover expenses for 12 months in Germany. The opening of the account is usually accompanied by a lock flag that limits monthly withdrawals to EURO 643 per month. The amount per month increase to 648 EUR in the year 2009.
An alternative would be a surety ship (promissory warranty) of your finances (at least EUROS 643 per month for 12 months). The amount per month increase to 648 EUROS in the year 2009. The guarantor must have their place of residence in Germany.
